The results of the 16th National College Mathematics Competition, announced on April 13th, showcased outstanding achievements by students from Guizhou University (GZU). Pang Kaiyuan, an Applied Mathematics major (Class 2101) from GZU’s School of Mathematics and Statistics, secured a first-place national award in the senior division of the Mathematics Major category. This marks the second consecutive year GZU has earned this prestigious honor. Additionally, the university claimed three second prizes, six third prizes, and received the Outstanding University Organization Award (Second Prize) for its exemplary coordination of the event.

Organized by the Chinese Mathematical Society, the National College Mathematics Competition is a high-level academic contest drawing participants from universities nationwide. This year’s event saw 325,204 students from 1,223 institutions compete. In Guizhou Province alone, 5,601 students from 30 universities registered, including 1,695 from GZU. Following rigorous preliminary rounds, 1,254 finalists from 352 universities advanced to the national finals, with contenders from elite institutions like Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Zhejiang University. Of GZU’s 11 finalists, 10 competed and all earned awards.

These achievements reflect the dedication of GZU’s students, the expert mentorship of faculty, and the institution’s commitment to fostering academic excellence. The School of Mathematics and Statistics has long prioritized preparing students for national and international competitions through targeted training in mathematics, mathematical modeling, statistics, and data analysis. By integrating theoretical rigor with practical application, the school cultivates strong problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking, equipping students to thrive in competitive environments.

GZU extends its warmest congratulations to the awardees and urges them to continue pursuing excellence in their academic and professional journeys. The university also encourages all students to draw inspiration from their peers, deepen their subject mastery, and actively participate in academic competitions to sharpen their innovation skills and holistic capabilities.
